Junior Hero Academy kids work so hard!  Here they are with  the battling ropes and climbing ropes, jump squats and pull ups and practising overhead squats with a 7.5kg weighted bar instead of the PVC pipe they have been used to.  Onwards and upwards!

"Mum, it's not about being thin, it's about being strong"
quote from one of my 11 year-old Hero Academy girls

There's nothing like getting them young and teaching them the ways of the force!  These awesome children, whom I am privileged enough to train at Junior Hero Academy, learn fundamental, primal moves that will set them up for life with good form and posture and strong core muscles.

If you can do an overhead squat and a press up perfectly, well, then, everything is in perfect alignment!

These kids are incredible!  They are strong, determined and they work hard!

Here are some of the things we've been up to recently:

Planking - it's ok on its own but make it a competition and all of a sudden, you can triple your time!

Overhead squats                                                         Pistol Squats

Rope climbs

Practising double-unders

 Great hip mobility!

Pull ups

These kids take their gorilla stance very seriously!

You have to match the guns with strong triceps!

At Junior Hero Academy, the little Junior Heroes that come to see me are AMAZING!

They never give up, they work really hard and they listen really carefully (generally more carefully than my grown up clients!)  This means they do the exercises I give them carefully and with great form, meaning they get the most out of each exercise and they vastly reduce any risk of injury.

I'm so proud of my little Junior Heroes!

Today I thought we'd have a go at developing a party piece for Christmas.  I said we were going to look at pistol squats.  We did some TRX pistol squats to get them used to it.  Then we got into the pistol squat from the bottom up.

I told them they would have to practise really hard between now and Christmas and that then they would have a great showing off thing to do to impress people.  In case you don't know what a pistol squat is, they are REALLY HARD!

Have a go - this is how you do them.  Stand on one foot with the other staying dead straight in front of you.

Keeping your heel on the ground, squat down until your bum nearly touches the ground but doesn't and make sure your leg is straight out in front of you.  Then get up again without putting your other leg on the ground!

So, I told the kids to have a go.

They only went and did it!  A little practice.  A few fallings over.  Then they went and did it!

Junior Hero Academy will be running small, exclusive classes for 5 children at a time from our little home gym in Eagle Close.

If you would like a place for September, please book early - I can potentially run extra classes, so if one is full, please contact me for more details.

Junior Hero Academy aims to get kids interested in being active, challenging themselves and engaging in a little healthy competition.  The vast majority of the exercises are body weight exercises, occasionally very low weights are used to get them used to correct form and add a little extra resistance.

We do mainly calisthenics training, which is intended to increase strength, flexibility, endurance, balance and coordination.  This sort of exercise, including running, jumping, skipping, lifting, pulling and pushing can improve both muscular and cardiovascular fitness and it's the kind of thing kids are doing in the playground every day - just with a bit more focus.

Your kids are likely to get hot, sweaty and out of breath!

I am a fully qualified teacher and personal trainer.
